Isis - Stone to Wake a Serpent

We four, bound by blood
Standing in the crossroads

On the underside of the world
Waiting our turn

Here we see
Coiled serpent
Black and baking
In the sun

Stone is flung
Serpent wakens
Arrow of poison
Pierces our hearts

Teeth sink into tender flesh
Lightning strikes, too fast to see

We seek succor for the stricken
Pleas met with spiteful laughs

Slow advance, not to stir the poison
Its course fast and merciless

Light Bearer - Beautiful is this Burden

Explanation

The empty void a canvas, upon which Lucifer watched the many threads of reality weave endlessly. Huddled with his host and starved of all sensory nourishment, he pondered his choices, the realities he had accepted as truth, that the creator god was no more a creator than himself. Within him there was a cause, and the blackness around him soon took form, they heard the minds of the universe, an endless myriad of ideas, and thoughts, painting a mural of consciousness across the narrative of their prison. As the silence and darkness cloyed at them, those voices became images, sounds reverberated to form visions of the life that had begun to evolve in the multiverse, and the very substance of the fallen host was drawn to them, a reciprocal, joyous sharing, feeding the starved minds of those ethereal and corporeal. This found a purpose for the host – to bridge the untold aeons between their incarceration and those which the authority would soon subjugate and oppress. They would build a tower, the highest peak, and from this they would broadcast the words which would offer an alternative to the rapture of the false god.

I’m not a big fan of long duration songs, sometimes are just boring, when i check out this band for a review my first impression was “30 MINUTES!” but well, if a band knows how to do a great work without being boring, they deserve more than a simple “check out”.

HammerHands it’s a four piece band from Mississauga, Canada. Who like their own description “are a loud, down tempo band”, a mixture of Sludge, Stoner and Doom. This first Lp named “Glaciers” it’s a very impressive album, maybe the time of the album can make you doubt about listening or not this band, but when you finnish it, you want more about Glaciers.

Starting with sludgie and stoner riffs begins “Floods”, with a sound that make me love this genre, great lyrics and a vocal that fit perfectly on this genre. The second track “Analysis Paralysis” had one of my favorites lyrics of the whole album. The self-styled, “Glaciers” reminds me some post-metal bands, like Cult of Luna, combination of Sludge sound, Hardcore voice and post-metal elements that became this my favorite track of this band so far.

Then we have “Meatbag”, like a war song with a cold lyric, this track can make you think about many human conflicts along history and make you feel disgusting about it. “Lasciate Ogne Spreranza, Voi Ch’intrate” an interlude with a Dante Alighieri influence, simple but fit perfectly in the album structure. “Equus” the last track it’s very impressive and epic, a half-hour track that is not a little bit quiet, instead, it’s loud, sludgie and very, very enjoyable, the voice and those riffs reminds me bands like Neurosis and Zoroaster, maybe someones can find boring the last 10minutes of this song, is like drone and desolated riffs, but really fit with the concep of the whole album, is a matter of taste and opinion.

Glaciers it’s an amazing album, the lyrics of the whole album transmit a cold human condition, n, chadr ofloud sounds like the soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic day. I always talk about the human condition of every band, and HammerHands make a nice feedback always that you try to contact them via email or any social web, so if you want to cheer or make any question to this dudes, you surely have an answer.
